Cypriol is an herbaceous plant, commonly known as Nagarmotha is found throughout India. It belongs to the family Cyperacea. Cypriol/Nagarmotha essential oil has been known for decades in India, its native land. Cypriol roots were used to scent women’s clothing, including traditional saris.

Extraction/Making of Nagarmotha (Cypriol Essential Oil):

The plants of Nagarmotha aka Cypriol are native to India’s Madhya Pradesh state. In order to derive the essential oil, the roots and rhizomes of the plant are harvested during the season of April to June. Then the collected frsh plant parts or raw material is sent to the nearby distillery unit. The roots of Cypriol are washed and dried in the same way as vetiver roots before the distillation process takes place .

The major chemical components of Cypriol essential oil include flavonoids, terpenoids, sesquiterpenes, cyprotene, cyperene, aselinene, rotundene, valencene, cyperol, gurjunene, trans-calamenene, cadalene, cyperotundone, mustakone, isocyperol, acyperone, and few more.
